Nagpur, 29 Sept (HS): A

novel way to defraud ATM users was detected by Nagpur’s Hudkeshwar Police. Two

men from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have been arrested in this

connection.

The fraud came to the fore

when several Canara Bank ATM users complained of not getting the money through

the money dispensing machines. The complaints reported were related to fraud of

Rs 1,52 lakh. The money was debited from their accounts, but the cash was

dispensed by the ATM.

CCTV footage showed that

the two men placing a plastic strip over the cash dispensing socket of the ATM

and later turning to remove the plastic strip and collect the money trapped behind

the strip.

Police arrested Satish

Rajput (32), near a Canara Bank ATM on Manewada Road on September 27. He is a

native of Daheli in Kanpur. Five plastic strips, an adhesive tape, Fevikwik, a

scissors, ATM card and Rs 7,500 cash from him. During interrogation Rajput

named his accomplice Dharmendra Sahu (35), a resident of Jabalpur. He was

arrested by Nagpur’s Sitabulti police.
