Aichi-Nagoya, 28 September (H.S.): Indian boxer Priya Ghanghas advanced to the semifinals of the women’s 60kg category at the Asian Games 2026 after defeating Tajikistan’s Mizgona Samadova 5-0 in the quarterfinals, thereby securing another medal for India.

The bout began with an intense contest between the two boxers. Samadova took the opening round on a 3-2 split decision from the judges. Three of the five judges scored the round 10-9 in Samadova’s favour, while the other two awarded it 10-9 to Priya.

However, Priya made an impressive comeback from the second round onwards. She won both the second and third rounds by a unanimous 5-0 margin. All five judges scored both rounds 10-9 in Priya’s favour.

Samadova was also issued a warning in the second round. At the end of the bout, Priya secured victory by a unanimous decision from all five judges. The final scores were 29-27, 30-26, 29-27, 30-26 and 29-27 in her favour.

After trailing in the opening round, Priya’s strong comeback carried her through to the semifinals. With the victory, she also secured another boxing medal for India at the Asian Games.
