Aichi-Nagoya, 28 September (H.S.): India’s star boxer Lovlina Borgohain secured a place in the semifinals of the women’s 75kg category at the Asian Games 2026, assuring the country of another medal. In Monday’s quarterfinal, Borgohain defeated South Korea’s 2010 Asian Games bronze medallist Suyeon Seong 5-0.

Borgohain adopted an aggressive approach right from the opening bell. The two boxers exchanged heavy punches in the first round, but Borgohain produced the more effective boxing and earned the verdict of all five judges.

Seong tried to fight back aggressively in the second round, but Borgohain responded with her footwork and counter-attacking skills. She repeatedly landed jabs and once again won the round 5-0 on all five judges’ cards.

In the third round, Borgohain established complete control over the contest. She unleashed quick one-two combinations and kept Seong under sustained pressure. The judges again awarded the round 5-0 in Borgohain’s favour. She eventually won the bout by a combined score of 30-27.

Borgohain will now face Kazakhstan’s Natalya Bogdanova in the semifinals on Wednesday for a place in the final. The women’s 75kg semifinal is scheduled for September 30.

Parveen Hooda and Ankush Panghal also in medal contention

Earlier, Parveen Hooda booked her place in the semifinals of the women’s 65kg category, assuring India of a medal. She defeated Uzbekistan’s 2025 World Championships silver medallist Navbakhor Khamidova 5-0 in the quarterfinals. Hooda secured the three rounds with scores of 4-1, 5-0 and 5-0.

In the men’s 80kg category, Ankush Panghal has also advanced to the semifinals. He defeated Tajikistan’s Nekruz Salimov 5-0 in the quarterfinals. Panghal dominated the contest with his speed and accurate punching, maintaining control throughout the bout.
