Guwahati, 28 September (HS): Assam Health Minister Ashok Singhal on Monday undertook a comprehensive review of healthcare services in Kokrajhar and Bongaigaon, with a focus on strengthening medical infrastructure and improving the delivery of health services across the region.

Singhal inspected Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital and reviewed the functioning of various departments, facilities available to patients, quality of medical services and infrastructure. He also interacted with students, doctors and senior faculty members of the medical college and discussed measures to strengthen the academic environment and improve the quality of medical education.

A review meeting was subsequently held to assess the hospital's medical services, infrastructure, patient amenities, human resources and other issues related to medical education. Discussions also focused on measures to make healthcare more accessible and improve the overall quality of patient care.

At the Bodoland Territorial Council headquarters, a separate meeting reviewed healthcare indicators and the progress of health services in Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, Tamulpur and Udalguri districts. Maternal and child health, institutional deliveries, immunisation, quality of medical services, infrastructure, human resources, availability of medicines and other essential supplies were among the issues discussed.

The meeting also examined challenges affecting healthcare delivery and stressed timely measures to address them, strengthen health infrastructure and ensure effective utilisation of available resources.

In Bongaigaon, Singhal inspected the Bongaigaon Medical College and Hospital ahead of its scheduled inauguration on October 5. He reviewed the progress of construction, medical infrastructure and preparations for the inauguration and commencement of healthcare services.

Officials were directed to complete all pending works before the inauguration and ensure the necessary arrangements for starting medical services.

BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, MLA Rupam Roy, BTC Executive Member for Health Department Derhasat Basumatary, Principal Secretary of Bodoland Territorial Council Mukesh Sahu, Health and Family Welfare Commissioner Secretary Dr P Ashok Babu, Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital Principal Dr Atul Boro and BTC Health Department Director Dr Nilo Brahma were among those present at the Kokrajhar review meeting.

Bongaigaon District Commissioner Satyaranjan Chahariya, Senior Superintendent of Police Nomal Mahato and Bongaigaon Medical College and Hospital Principal Dr Harmen Ferongk, among other officials, attended the review meeting in Bongaigaon.------------
