New Delhi, 28 September (H.S.): A Supreme Court Bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta has cancelled the bail granted to Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre by the Bombay High Court in connection with the case involving the alleged assault on doctors at Shastri Nagar Hospital in Kalyan. The Bench made it clear that violence against medical professionals cannot be tolerated.

Ramesh Mhatre had challenged the bail conditions imposed by the Bombay High Court in connection with the alleged assault on doctors at Shastri Nagar Hospital in Kalyan. Earlier, during a hearing on September 7, the court had observed that people sharing the same political ideology were involved in attacks on doctors.

The court had said that such political leaders and workers should be taken into custody immediately and should not be allowed to roam freely on the streets. It had observed that entering doctors’ chambers and brutally assaulting them could not, under any circumstances, be treated as normal.

The court further stressed that strict action should be taken against those who attack doctors so that others are deterred from engaging in such acts.
