Global markets are showing signs of weakness. US markets had managed to close on a firm note in the previous session. However, Dow Jones futures were trading lower on Monday. European markets also ended the previous session on a mixed note, while Asian markets are broadly witnessing selling pressure today.
Sentiment across most global equity markets came under pressure today after US President Donald Trump rejected an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. US markets had managed to post gains in the previous session. The S&P 500 Index closed 0.51 percent higher at 7,743.41 points. Similarly, the Nasdaq ended the previous session 129.34 points, or 0.48 percent, higher at 27,068.72 points. However, Dow Jones futures were currently trading 180.38 points, or 0.35 percent, lower at 51,648.24 points.
European markets ended the previous session on a mixed note. The FTSE Index remained unchanged as the London Stock Exchange was closed for a holiday. Meanwhile, the CAC Index ended marginally lower by 0.04 percent at 8,077.80 points. In contrast, the DAX Index gained 142.11 points, or 0.56 percent, to close at 25,408.64 points.
Asian markets, meanwhile, were broadly under pressure today. Of the nine Asian markets, six benchmark indices were trading in the red, while two were holding in positive territory. The Taiwan Weighted Index remained unchanged as the Taiwan Stock Exchange was closed for a holiday. In the Asian market, the Hang Seng Index was trading 148.91 points, or 0.61 percent, higher at 24,659 points. Similarly, the Straits Times Index climbed 0.64 percent to 5,747.40 points.
On the other hand, GIFT Nifty declined 0.22 percent to trade at 23,138.50 points. Similarly, the Nikkei Index slipped 129.20 points, or 0.19 percent, to 66,235 points. The KOSPI Index witnessed a sharp decline today. The index was currently down 168.45 points, or 2.38 percent, at 6,912.47 points.
The Shanghai Composite Index also plunged sharply today. The index fell 69.26 points, or 1.78 percent, to 3,819.11 points. In addition, the Jakarta Composite Index declined 0.88 percent to 6,187.06 points. Meanwhile, the SET Composite Index was trading 0.22 percent lower at 1,604.02 points.
