Chandigarh, 27 September (H.S.): The Punjab Vigilance Bureau during its ongoing drive against corruption in the state, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau has apprehended Inspector Sunita Bawa, Station House Officer at Police Station Kot Ise Khan, district Moga, along with Punjab Home Guard Guravtar Singh, red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹50,000.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the state VB said the above-mentioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by a resident of village Noorpur Hakima district Moga.

He said that the complainant alleged that accused PHG Guravtar Singh had demanded a bribe of ₹1,00,000 failing which complainant will be implicated in a case already registered at the Kot Ise Khan Police Station and after that accused PHG agreed to take Rs 80000/- as bribe. The accused PHG Guravtar Singh had already taken ₹20,000 as bribe from the complainant and was demanding an additional ₹60,000. During the investigation, it was revealed that a bribe installment of ₹50,000 was specifically meant for SHO Sunita Bawa.

Unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, complainant approached the VB Range Ferozepur. Acting on his complaint, the VB team laid a trap during which the accused Inspector Sunita Bawa was arrested red handed while accepting bribe money of Rs 50,000/- from the accused PHG Guravtar Singh in presence of two official witnesses.

In this regard, a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Ferozepur and further investigation into this case is under progress.
