Amaravati, 27 September (HS): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday directed officials to expedite relief measures for people affected by the recent spell of heavy rainfall and instructed authorities to distribute 50 kg of rice to rain-hit fisherfolk.

Naidu reviewed the situation arising from increased inflows into rivers and reservoirs and directed officials to make maximum use of the available water while ensuring the safety of people living in vulnerable areas.

The Chief Minister called for faster assessment of losses and timely implementation of relief measures for affected communities.

He also directed officials to examine the feasibility of constructing another barrage across the Krishna to make better use of increased inflows.

Officials have been monitoring water levels and inflows into major reservoirs following the recent rainfall in the state. The administration has also been asked to maintain coordination among departments dealing with irrigation, revenue, agriculture and disaster management.

Naidu stressed that relief and assistance should reach affected people without delay and directed officials to remain alert in areas vulnerable to flooding.

The state government has been closely monitoring the situation as rainfall and increased river inflows have affected several parts of Andhra Pradesh.

The Chief Minister also reviewed the availability of water in reservoirs and the requirements of agricultural areas, directing officials to ensure that available resources are utilised effectively.

The government has been taking up field-level assessments to determine the extent of damage caused by the recent rainfall and identify communities requiring immediate assistance.
