Mumbai, 27 September (H.S.): On the occasion of Daughter’s Day, actress Kriti Sanon raised important questions about women’s safety through a social media post. She said that while celebrating Daughter’s Day, society must also reflect on how many young women today are required to remain constantly vigilant about their safety in public spaces. In her Instagram post, Kriti highlighted several everyday situations that many girls routinely encounter.

Kriti pointed out that sharing live locations, carrying pepper spray, taking a cab instead of walking alone, or calling someone simply to feel safe have become part of everyday life for many women. She questioned how a family would feel if their daughter called to say that some people were following her, or if she kept looking back repeatedly while walking home alone. The actress said the true meaning of Daughter’s Day would be realised only when women are able to live their lives in public spaces without fear.

In her message, Kriti emphasised the need for a society where a woman can return home alone at night, sit in a park after dark, wear clothes of her choice and use public transport without fear. She expressed hope for a day when daughters would no longer have to repeatedly send messages confirming their location after reaching a destination safely.

Kriti’s post has sparked discussion on social media about women’s safety and society’s responsibility towards creating a safer environment for women.
