New Delhi, 27 September (H.S.):

The 92nd edition of ‘Fit India Sunday on Cycle’ was organised at the IG Indoor Stadium in the ITO area of New Delhi on Sunday morning as part of Hindi Fortnight 2026. Organised in collaboration with Sulabh International, the event aimed to encourage people to adopt an active and healthy lifestyle.

Endurance athlete, ultra-runner, cyclist and mountaineer Sabita Mahto, fitness model and Mrs India 2019 Kiran Chhillar, and Fit India Ambassador Dr Prem Prakash Meena, along with cycling and fitness enthusiasts, participated in the event with great enthusiasm. During the programme, participants took a pledge against substance abuse and reaffirmed their commitment to a healthy, addiction-free lifestyle. The cycling rally was subsequently flagged off formally.

G.P. Upadhyay, Senior Advisor at Sulabh International and a retired IAS officer, said in a statement that it was encouraging to see such a large number of people gathering on a Sunday morning. He said that, alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to remain fit and take up cycling, participants also took a pledge against substance abuse during the programme. He emphasised the importance of taking the messages of fitness and cleanliness forward together and said that the Swachh Bharat Mission should continue, as cleanliness forms the foundation of both a healthy society and physical fitness.

Fit India Ambassador Dr Prem Prakash Meena said that this was the 92nd edition of the ‘Sunday on Cycle’ campaign and that the enthusiasm shown by young people reflected the emergence of a new fitness movement in the country.

Mountaineer Sabita Mahto urged young people to make regular fitness a part of their daily routine. She said that fitness should not be limited to Sundays and that people should devote at least half an hour to physical activity every day. She added that consistently following an activity for 21 days can help turn it into a habit, making it important to cultivate positive habits in life.

More than 1,000 people participated in the fitness activities that began at around 5:30 am on Sunday. Along with cycling, participants took part in yoga, zumba and skipping activities. They later participated in a 5-kilometre run and cycling ride around the stadium.

A special game zone was also set up at the venue, featuring board games such as carrom and chess, as well as sports and fitness activities including badminton, tug-of-war and obstacle races. Participants took part in the activities with considerable enthusiasm.
