Kochi, 27 Sept (H.S.): The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) plans to expand its presence in Kerala and take up social and political issues across the state, party coordinators said ahead of a public meeting at Ernakulam’s Marine Drive on Sunday.

The meeting, scheduled for 4.30 pm, is expected to mark the party’s entry into organised activity in Kerala. CJP intends to establish units in all districts soon, with each unit focusing on social issues in its area, said Sanoop Dev, one of the party’s coordinators in the state.

The party wants its district units to make what it described as serious and effective interventions in local matters. It has not yet announced when the units will be formed or identified the issues they will address first.

CJP southern region in-charge Vijay Reddy Mallanki and national joint secretary Balakrishna Shukla are expected to attend the Kochi meeting, Sanoop said. Firoz Khan, Isha Mariam Harris, Sanoop Dev and Nithin Noble are coordinating the party’s activities in Kerala.

The Kerala expansion comes as CJP prepares a separate nationwide protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The party has called for demonstrations on October 2, Gandhi Jayanti, beginning in Mumbai and later extending to other places.

CJP founder Abhijith Deepke issued the call for the protest, according to the party. It has not specified the allegations behind its demand in the announcement or released a schedule for demonstrations outside Mumbai.

Sunday’s gathering will give the party an opportunity to outline its plans for Kerala and introduce the leaders overseeing its work in the state. Further details on membership, district leadership and future programmes are expected to emerge as it begins organising beyond Kochi. The party has not said how many people it expects at Marine Drive or whether the national protest will include an event in Kerala.
