Aichi-Nagoya, 27 September (H.S.): India won two silver medals in squash at the ongoing Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Sunday. After Abhay Singh secured the silver medal in the men’s singles, young Indian player Anahat Singh also finished with a silver in the women’s singles. However, both players fell short of winning the gold medal.

In the men’s singles final, India’s Abhay Singh suffered an 11-9, 11-5, 11-5 defeat against Malaysia’s Ng Eain Yow. Abhay struggled to match the Malaysian player across all three games. Eain Yow took the opening game 11-9 to gain the early advantage. He then denied Abhay any opportunity to stage a comeback in the second game, winning it 11-5.

Abhay attempted to make a strong start in the third game, but Eain Yow maintained control of the contest and closed it out 11-5 to claim the gold medal.

With the victory, Eain Yow retained the men’s singles title at the Asian Games for a second consecutive edition. Abhay had to settle for the silver medal. Earlier, Abhay had booked his place in the final by defeating Pakistan’s Muhammad Irfan 11-3, 12-10, 11-6 in the semi-final.

Anahat Singh Also Miss Out on Gold

In the women’s singles final, India’s 18-year-old Anahat Singh was defeated 11-4, 11-4, 11-7 by Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam. Anahat therefore won the silver medal, while Sivasangari claimed the gold.

The contest, which lasted around 27 minutes, saw Anahat struggle to find her rhythm from the outset. The Malaysian player won both of the opening two games 11-4 to establish a commanding lead. Anahat offered greater resistance in the third game and attempted to keep the score close, but Sivasangari eventually won the game 11-7 to seal the match.

Before reaching the final, Anahat had defeated Japan’s Satomi Watanabe in a thrilling semi-final, winning 9-11, 11-13, 12-10, 11-6, 11-3.

India’s Medal Tally Rises to 32

With the silver medals won by Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh, India’s medal tally at the 2026 Asian Games has risen to 32. India now has four gold medals, 14 silver medals and 14 bronze medals.
