Guwahati/New Delhi, 27 September (HS): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday inspected Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi to take stock of preparations for the grand finale of the birth centenary celebrations of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika.

The concluding ceremony will be held at Bharat Mandapam on November 29, 2026, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to attend the landmark event.

During his visit, Sarma inspected the halls and reviewed arrangements for the programme. Senior officials briefed him on the preparations and other aspects of the event.

An exhibition highlighting the life, works and legacy of Dr Hazarika will also be organised at the venue. It will showcase his artistic journey and contributions to Indian music and culture, besides highlighting his enduring influence as a cultural icon.

“We are curating an unforgettable tribute, one truly befitting the legacy of Sudhakantha,” Sarma said in a post on X following his visit.

The centenary celebrations are aimed at commemorating Hazarika’s contribution to Indian culture. His music crossed linguistic and geographical boundaries and reflected themes of humanity, social harmony, fraternity and national integration.

The grand finale is expected to bring together eminent personalities, artists, cultural practitioners and admirers of the legendary singer and composer from across the country. The event will also showcase Assam’s rich cultural heritage and Hazarika’s contribution to India’s cultural landscape.

Additional Chief Secretary B Kalyan Chakravarthy, Commissioner and Secretary, Information and Public Relations, Padmapani Bora, Resident Commissioner, Assam Bhawan, Kavitha Padmanabhan, MLA Taranga Gogoi and Director, Information and Public Relations, Manabendra Dev Ray, among other senior officials, were present during the inspection.------------
