Dibrugarh (Assam), 26 September (HS): Two members of the same family were killed after a herd of wild elephants attacked their house at Puberun Basti in Namchang Tea Estate under Joypur in Assam’s Dibrugarh district, triggering tension among local residents.

The deceased have been identified as Ramen Tanti and his seven-year-old daughter Rashmi Tanti.

According to reports, a herd of wild elephants suddenly entered the area and attacked Ramen Tanti’s residence late Friday night, causing extensive damage to the house. Ramen reportedly fled the house with his daughter in an attempt to reach a safer location. However, the two were attacked and killed by the elephants.

Ramen’s wife and another daughter narrowly escaped the attack.

The incident has sparked anger among residents, who alleged that Forest Department personnel had not reached the spot even after the tragic incident. Local people expressed concern over the continuing threat posed by wild elephants in the area and demanded immediate measures to prevent further human-elephant conflicts.------------
