Madurai, 26 Sept (H.S.): Police are preparing security and traffic arrangements for Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s visit to Madurai on Monday, September 28. He is scheduled to attend programmes at Government Rajaji Hospital and the Gandhi Museum, with a visit to the Meenakshi Amman Temple also under consideration.

It will be Vijay’s first visit to the city since taking office. Officials are reviewing the expected travel route, including the stretch from the airport to the hospital, while awaiting confirmation of his full itinerary.

At 12.30 pm, the Chief Minister is scheduled to launch the “Thai Maman Gold Ring” programme for babies born in government hospitals. The event was originally planned for Usilampatti but has been shifted to Government Rajaji Hospital. Authorities have not publicly explained the change.

Vijay is expected to inaugurate the renovated Gandhi Museum at 1 pm. Government sources said he may offer prayers at the Meenakshi Amman Temple around 4.30 pm, though neither the temple stop nor its timing has been formally confirmed.

Police are planning crowd control and traffic measures near the hospital, where members of the public and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam workers may gather. Officers from Madurai and other areas are expected to be deployed along the routes and at the venues.

The temple held its maha kumbabhishekam on September 17, its first consecration ceremony in 17 years. Mandala pujas that began the next day will continue until October 2, bringing devotees to the shrine during the proposed visit.

Preparations are under way at Rajaji Hospital, where buildings are being painted and refurbished. Workers are also repairing damaged roads and laying fresh tar along the expected route.

Police will finalise deployment and any traffic restrictions once Vijay’s schedule is confirmed. Officials said the arrangements would account for access to the hospital and the movement of devotees around the temple.
