Nishio, September 26 (HS): Commonwealth Games gold medallist Priya Ghanghas produced an impressive performance at the Asian Games on Saturday, defeating South Korea’s two-time world medallist Oh Yeon-ji 5-0 in a one-sided pre-quarter-final bout in the women’s 60kg category.

Competing at the Nishio Gymnasium, Priya dominated all three rounds, with all five judges awarding the bout in favour of the Indian boxer. Three judges scored the contest 30-27, while the other two had it 29-28.

Priya landed accurate punches in the opening round and forced Oh Yeon-ji to take a standing count. The South Korean boxer remained under sustained pressure as Priya’s sharp jabs found their mark. The Indian won the round 5-0.

Priya continued to impress in the second round, combining solid defence with effective counter-attacks. Her left-hand jabs troubled Oh, and the Indian boxer again took the round 5-0.

Oh Yeon-ji attempted to fight back in the third round and adopted a more aggressive approach, but Priya remained composed and responded with effective counter-punches. She won the round 3-2 and completed a 5-0 victory to book her place in the quarter-finals.

Priya will face Tajikistan’s Mizgona Samadova in the quarter-finals on Monday. A victory in that bout would take her into the semi-finals and guarantee her a medal.
