New Delhi, 26 September (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, among several other leaders, paid tribute to former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on his birth anniversary. Dr Singh was born on September 26, 1932.

Remembering Dr Singh in a post on the social media platform X, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he had served the country with utmost dedication throughout his long public life. The Prime Minister recalled Dr Singh’s contributions to the nation. Last year too, Prime Minister Modi had paid tribute to Dr Singh on his birth anniversary, remembering his public life and contributions to the country.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla paid tribute to Dr Manmohan Singh and said that his long public life and leadership would always remain noteworthy.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that Dr Manmohan Singh’s contributions to public life and to India’s progress would always be remembered.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said that Dr Manmohan Singh’s humility, integrity and wisdom had defined his public life. He said Dr Singh led with dignity and sensitivity and placed inclusive development and the welfare of vulnerable sections of society at the centre of governance. Kharge said his legacy of public service, inclusive development and reforms would continue to inspire future generations.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that Dr Manmohan Singh, as an accomplished economist and successful statesman, had accelerated India’s development and taken the country’s prosperity to new heights. She said his visionary and inclusive economic policies, as well as his contribution to the nation’s development, would always be remembered.

Dr Manmohan Singh served as Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014. Before becoming Prime Minister, he held several key positions, including that of Finance Minister, and also served as Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. He passed away on December 26, 2024, at the age of 92.
