New Delhi, September 26 (HS): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday inaugurated an Automated Testing Centre (ATS) in Burari under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’. The ATS has the capacity to conduct fitness tests for 90,000 vehicles annually. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari and Delhi Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Kumar Singh were present on the occasion.

The Chief Minister said that an ATS had been inaugurated at Tehkhand on September 3 and that the Burari facility was the second such centre to be opened in just 23 days. An ATS had also already been operationalised at the Nand Nagari depot. “This is the pace at which our government is working,” she said.

Gupta said the entire testing process at the centre would be automated, reducing human intervention and enhancing accuracy and transparency in vehicle fitness assessments.

She said the ATS would conduct essential checks to assess vehicle fitness, including brake performance, suspension efficiency, headlight alignment, side-slip, emission levels and inspection of the vehicle’s underbody. She added that the facility would also provide fresh impetus to the government’s continued efforts towards pollution control.

Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the use of technology in vehicle fitness testing would make the inspection process more systematic and improve monitoring. He said this would directly support efforts to enhance road safety and control pollution.

He added that the facility would save millions of commercial vehicle operators in north-east Delhi from having to travel to other parts of the city for fitness tests, thereby saving both time and effort.
