New Delhi, 26 September (H.S.): Customers may face difficulties during the last week of September as employees of public sector banks are scheduled to observe a three-day nationwide strike from September 28 to 30. Banks have advised customers to complete essential banking transactions before the strike to avoid inconvenience.

The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called for a three-day nationwide strike from September 28. Before the strike, banks will remain closed on September 26 as it is the fourth Saturday of the month. However, despite Sunday being a weekly holiday, bank branches will remain open on September 27. Consequently, banking operations at branches are expected to be affected for three consecutive days from September 28 to 30.

Meanwhile, some banks, including State Bank of India (SBI), one of the country’s largest public sector banks, as well as some old private-sector banks, have advised customers to complete essential banking transactions before the strike.

SBI, in a message sent to customers, said that its branches would remain open on September 27 and advised customers to visit any branch for their banking requirements.

The bank unions have called the strike over several demands, including the implementation of a five-day banking workweek.

During the three-day strike, services at bank branches such as cash deposits and withdrawals, cheque clearing and other banking operations are expected to be affected. Customers who need to visit branches in person to complete banking-related work may therefore face inconvenience.
