Kollam, 26 September (H.S.): Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Kollam on Saturday to attend Mata Amritanandamayi’s birthday celebrations. Police have announced traffic restrictions across parts of the district during his visit and urged motorists to use designated diversion routes.

Vehicle movement on the Chinnakada–Arumurikada road will be restricted from 1 pm to 5 pm. Roadside parking along the stretch is prohibited, and police said vehicles parked in violation of the order would be removed.

Heavy vehicles travelling from Kottarakkara towards Kollam must turn left at Ambalathumkala and proceed via Karipra, Madanthacode, Nedumankavu, Nallila, Palamukku and Kannanalloor. Light motor vehicles and motorcycles must turn at Arumurikada and travel through Kuzhimathikad, PKP Junction, UPS Junction, Perumbuzha and Kannanalloor.

Vehicles heading from Kannanalloor towards Kottarakkara must turn at Perumbuzha and proceed through PKP Junction, Kuzhimathikad and Arumurikada. Those bound for Bharanikkavu should travel via Cheerankavu and Pavithreswaram.

From Bharanikkavu, Kottarakkara-bound vehicles must turn at Moonnumukku and take the Pavithreswaram–Cheerankavu route. Vehicles heading to Kollam should travel via Perayam, Elampalloor and Anchalummoodu. Motorists travelling from Kollam towards Kottarakkara must turn at Sarathi Junction and proceed through Moideen Mukku, Perumbuzha and PKP Junction.

Additional bypass routes have been arranged through Elampalloor Randu Road, Puthoor and KPP Junction at Keralapuram for vehicles arriving from Anchalummoodu, Kottankara, Mampuzha and nearby areas.

Before attending the birthday celebrations, Shah is scheduled to visit Pavithram Convention Centre in Kundara. There, between 2.45 pm and 4.15 pm, he will inaugurate an enterprise led by women in the district’s cooperative sector at a ‘Prosperity Through Cooperation’ programme linked to the International Year of the Woman Farmer. He will then travel to Mata Amritanandamayi Math to inaugurate a public programme at 5 pm.
