Aichi-Nagoya, 25 September (H.S.): Indian shooters Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Neeraj Kumar failed to secure medals in the men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions individual event at the 2026 Asian Games after India had won the silver medal in the team event. Aishwary finished fifth, while Neeraj placed eighth.

Aishwary scored 327.6 points in the final to finish fifth, while Neeraj finished eighth and last with 299 points.

China’s Liu Yukun won the gold medal with 360.5 points. His compatriot Zhang Changhong secured the silver with 360.2 points, while Kazakhstan’s Islam Satpayev claimed the bronze with 348.3 points.

Earlier, in the men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions team event, the Indian trio of Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Neeraj Kumar won the silver medal. India posted a score of 1762-94x, while China won gold with 1766-95x and the Republic of Korea took bronze with 1751-87x.

India, which had won gold in this event at the 2022 Asian Games, was unable to retain its title this time.

In the team-event qualification, Aishwary finished third with a score of 589-34x and Neeraj fourth with 588-34x, while Rudrankksh finished ninth with 585-26x and therefore failed to qualify for the individual final.

Earlier, Suruchi Singh and Kamaljeet won India’s gold medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event. The Indian pair scored 484.6 points in the final to finish ahead of the Republic of Korea, which took silver with 478.0 points, while Iran won bronze with 415.8 points.

Suruchi and Kamaljeet also set an Asian record during their gold-medal-winning performance. Their score of 484.6 points surpassed the previous record of 481.3 points held by Uzbekistan.

India now has 19 medals at the Asian Games, comprising two gold, eight silver and nine bronze medals. One of India’s two gold medals was won by the women’s cricket team, which defeated Sri Lanka by 147 runs.
