Aichi-Nagoya, 25 September (H.S.): Indian boxer Sachin Siwach advanced to the quarterfinals of the men’s 60kg category at the 2026 Asian Games on Friday. Sachin defeated former Asian champion and World Championships bronze medallist Mohammad Abu Jajeh of Jordan by a 4-1 split decision.

Sachin made a cautious start in the opening round. Neither boxer displayed much aggression in the early exchanges, but Sachin’s punches were more effective. His well-timed left hook towards the end of the round also made an impact. The judges awarded the round to Sachin by a 3-2 margin.

Both boxers increased the pace in the second round. Sachin landed another effective left hook, while Mohammad attempted to use his reach to his advantage with counter-punches. The contest remained close, but Sachin’s punches connected more cleanly, and the judges awarded him the round 4-1.

In the third and decisive round, the Jordanian boxer began aggressively in an attempt to mount a comeback. However, he struggled to land clean punches and signs of fatigue also became evident. Sachin gradually strengthened his control of the bout and maintained his composure in the closing moments to secure victory.

Sachin thus won the bout 4-1 on a split decision and booked his place in the quarterfinals. In the last eight, he will face Japan’s Shunsuke Kitamoto, who is also a World Championships bronze medallist. Their quarterfinal bout will be held the day after tomorrow.

Sachin’s victory has further strengthened India’s medal hopes in boxing at the Asian Games.
