New Delhi, 25 September (H.S.): Union Minister for Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia on Friday reviewed the upcoming action plan for the proposed Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) in Gwalior. He directed senior officials of the concerned departments to accord priority to project-related work, ensure better coordination among departments and accelerate ground-level activities in accordance with the stipulated timelines.

According to the Ministry of Communications, the meeting included detailed discussions on the implementation of the TMZ and the roadmap ahead. Scindia instructed officials to expedite ongoing ground-level work and place particular emphasis on creating the necessary facilities and a conducive environment for investors.

The proposed TMZ in Gwalior has been described as Asia’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the project was signed between the Department of Telecommunications and the Government of Madhya Pradesh on July 30, 2026.

At the first investor roundtable for the project, held in New Delhi, commitments worth Rs 3,500 crore in investments and around 14,000 employment opportunities were announced. Subsequently, an investor meeting held in Mumbai on August 4, 2026, generated commitments for an additional investment of around Rs 2,000 crore. This took the proposed total investment to Rs 5,500 crore, with the potential to generate more than 18,000 employment opportunities.

Recently, Scindia conducted a site inspection of the proposed land for the TMZ in Gwalior and reviewed the preparations and ground-level status of the project. He subsequently held discussions with investors regarding the project at an investor roundtable in Bengaluru alongside Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav.

Notably, under the first phase of the TMZ, a 170-acre plug-and-play industrial cluster is proposed to be developed. The project envisages integrated facilities for telecommunications and electronics manufacturing, along with activities related to research and development and innovation.
