Rajamahendravaram, 25 September (H.S.): Heavy rains disrupted normal life in several parts of East Godavari district, inundating paddy fields and affecting traffic in various areas.

At Kovvada in Tallapudi mandal, nearly 2,000 acres of paddy fields were submerged following the heavy rains, raising concerns among farmers over possible crop losses.

In Gopalapuram, streams and rivulets were overflowing. The Kovvada canal and other irrigation channels at Chityala and Venkatayapalem also overflowed, inundating around 1,000 acres of agricultural land. The strong flow of water cut off access roads leading to several fields.

The Alli canal between Kovvurupadu and Dondapudi was also flowing at high levels. At the outskirts of Peddapuram, overflowing water from Peddacheruvu submerged nearly 200 acres of paddy fields.

Meanwhile, a large tree was uprooted on the highway at Dubacherla in Nallajerla mandal, disrupting traffic for some time.

The Rajamahendravaram Urban Tahsildar's office was also inundated after drainage water entered the premises following overnight rain. Water entered the Tahsildar's chamber and staff rooms. Employees took steps to protect important records from getting wet and continued their duties despite the waterlogging.
