New Delhi, 24 September (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed grief over the sleeper-bus fire incident on the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida and announced ex-gratia assistance of Rs.2 lakh each for the families of those who died and Rs.50,000 each for the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives in the bus fire incident in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. My condolences are with those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. An ex-gratia amount of ₹2 lakh each will be provided to the next of kin of those who lost their lives from the PMNRF. The injured will be given Rs.50,000 each.”

It may be recalled that a double-decker bus travelling from Kashmiri Gate in Delhi to Mahoba in Uttar Pradesh caught fire around midnight on Wednesday at the 33-kilometre point of the Yamuna Expressway. At the time of the incident, 35 people were travelling on the bus. Nine people, including a woman, were burnt to death in the accident.
