Aichi-Nagoya, 24 September (H.S.): India’s wushu exponent Naorem Roshibina Devi created history by winning her third consecutive medal at the Asian Games. By claiming the silver medal in the women’s 60kg sanda category, she became the first Indian woman to win medals in wushu at three successive editions of the Asian Games.

Roshibina suffered a 0-2 defeat against China’s Zhang Xiaoyu in Thursday’s final. Zhang secured the gold medal by winning both rounds 5-0.

Roshibina’s Asian Games medal-winning journey began in 2018, when she won bronze at the Jakarta Asian Games. She followed it up with a silver medal at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou and has now secured another silver at the 2026 edition, completing a remarkable run of three consecutive Asian Games medals.

Roshibina also enjoyed an impressive campaign in Japan. She defeated Indonesia’s Thania Kusumaningtyas 2-0 in the semifinal to book her place in the final. Earlier, she had also overcome Vietnam’s 2023 world champion Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy.

Despite her defeat in the final, Roshibina’s achievement marks a historic milestone for Indian wushu. She has become the first Indian woman wushu athlete to win medals at three consecutive editions of the Asian Games.
