Aichi-Nagoya, 24 September (H.S.): India’s impressive campaign at the Asian Games 2026 continued on Thursday, with the table tennis pairing of Diya Chitale and Yashaswini Ghorpade advancing to the next round of the women’s doubles event after defeating Iran 3-0 in their second-round encounter.

Meanwhile, Roshibina Devi won a silver medal in wushu, while the Indian rowing pair of Satnam Singh and Salman Khan secured a bronze medal.

In table tennis, Diya and Yashaswini produced a dominant performance against Iran’s Setayesh Ilkhani and Mashid Ashtari, winning the match 11-2, 11-2, 11-4.

In the women’s 60kg sanda event in wushu, Roshibina Devi lost 0-2 to China’s Zhang Xiaoyu in the final. Zhang won both rounds 5-0. Despite the defeat, Roshibina secured her second consecutive Asian Games silver medal.

With a bronze medal in 2018 and silver medals in 2022 and 2026, Roshibina has become the first Indian woman to win three successive Asian Games medals in wushu.

In the men’s double sculls rowing event, Satnam Singh and Salman Khan won the bronze medal with a time of 6:13.25. The Indian pair remained in second place at the 500m, 1,000m and 1,500m marks but slipped behind the Chinese crew in the final phase.

China’s Yi Xudi and Nie Yide won the gold medal, while Uzbekistan’s Mekhrojbek Mamatkulov and Pavel Sorin claimed silver.

In the men’s single sculls, Balraj Panwar narrowly missed out on a medal after finishing fourth. He was in second place until the 1,500m mark but was overtaken in the final 500m by Uzbekistan’s Shakhboz Kholmurzaev and Japan’s Tatsuya Sakurama. Panwar clocked 6:54.80.

In swimming, India’s Benediction Beniston finished fifth in his men’s 50m butterfly heat with a time of 23.87 seconds. He stood 12th overall after all the heats, while only the top 10 swimmers advanced to the final. Beniston remained on standby as a reserve for the final.

In canoe sprint, Megha Pradeep finished fourth in the women’s 200m singles semifinal with a time of 51.093 seconds. As only the top three competitors advanced to the final, Megha’s campaign came to an end.

In athletics, Anamika Anish Kozhinjaparambil finished fifth and last in her heat of the heptathlon 100m hurdles, clocking 14.80 seconds and earning 868 points. In the second heat, Pooja finished fifth with a time of 14.61 seconds and earned 894 points.

With these results, India’s medal tally at the Asian Games rose to 14. The country has so far won one gold, six silver and seven bronze medals.
