New Delhi, 24 September (H.S.): The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE), the country’s largest stock exchange, made a strong debut on the stock market on Thursday, with its shares rising more than 5 per cent during trading on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). After opening on the BSE with a modest gain, NSE entered the ranks of India’s 10 most valuable listed companies by market capitalisation.

NSE shares were listed on the BSE at Rs 1,800 apiece, a 0.84 per cent premium over the issue price of Rs 1,785. During the session, the stock climbed 5.21 per cent to touch Rs 1,878, taking NSE’s market capitalisation to Rs 4,54,966.88 crore. With this, NSE entered the top 10 most valuable companies on the BSE by market capitalisation.

According to BSE data, Reliance Industries had a market capitalisation of Rs 16,67,750.07 crore, followed by Bharti Airtel at Rs 11,32,338.92 crore, HDFC Bank at Rs 11,26,035.78 crore, ICICI Bank at Rs 9,57,570.88 crore, State Bank of India (SBI) at Rs 9,12,415.14 crore, TCS at Rs 7,57,627.53 crore, Bajaj Finance at Rs 6,15,435.85 crore, Larsen & Toubro at Rs 5,32,457.60 crore and Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) at Rs 5,13,716.31 crore.

NSE, with a market capitalisation of Rs 4,54,966.88 crore, moved ahead of Hindustan Unilever, whose market value stood at Rs 4,54,845.62 crore, and Sun Pharma, with a market capitalisation of Rs 4,46,985.57 crore. NSE’s rival, BSE, had a market capitalisation of Rs 1,31,946.42 crore.

NSE’s Rs 22,569-crore initial public offering (IPO) received nearly six times subscription on the final day of bidding on Monday, supported by strong demand from institutional investors. The issue was the country’s second-largest public offering after Hyundai Motor India’s Rs 27,870-crore IPO in 2024, surpassing LIC’s Rs 21,000-crore IPO launched in 2022.
