Bhubaneswar, 24 September (H.S.): Odisha witnessed widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall during the past 24 hours under the influence of a deep depression over the region, with Similiguda in Koraput district recording the highest rainfall of 193.9 mm.

According to rainfall data released by the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, at 8:30 am on Wednesday, seven stations across the state recorded very heavy rainfall, while 58 stations received heavy rainfall.

Similiguda emerged as the wettest location in the state with 193.9 mm of rainfall. It was followed by Chitrakonda in Malkangiri district with 168.8 mm, Mahendragarh in Gajapati with 153.4 mm and Tangi in Khordha district with 142.0 mm.

Several other locations also recorded rainfall exceeding 120 mm. G. Udayagiri in Kandhamal received 125.4 mm, while Paralakhemundi and Gosani in Gajapati district recorded 121.4 mm and 120.0 mm, respectively.

Heavy rainfall was also reported from several other parts of the state. Banki in Cuttack district recorded 112.0 mm, followed by Ghasipura in Keonjhar with 110.2 mm, Jaleswar in Balasore with 107.2 mm, Malkangiri town with 101.0 mm and Bari in Jajpur district with 100.0 mm.

Multiple stations across Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Koraput, Khordha, Cuttack and Nabarangpur districts also received heavy rainfall ranging from 64 mm to 99 mm.

Mayurbhanj, Ganjam and Jajpur were among the districts that recorded heavy rainfall at several monitoring stations, indicating the widespread nature of the weather system's impact.

The continuing influence of the deep depression has led to enhanced rainfall activity across several parts of Odisha, with weather conditions being closely monitored by the meteorological authorities.
