Hooghly, 24 September (H.S.): Residents have expressed concern over a dilapidated mud house that has been lying inside a school premises for a long time. Villagers alleged that the structure is in such a poor condition that it could collapse at any time, potentially causing a major accident. Demanding its immediate demolition, the villagers staged a protest and gheraoed the headmaster. The incident took place in the Nabasan area under Goghat Gram Panchayat in Goghat-I block.

According to the villagers, the old mud house located on the school premises has been in a severely damaged condition for a long time. They claimed that despite informing the headmaster several times, no arrangement has yet been made to remove the structure. Residents fear that a sudden collapse could put students coming to the school at risk. Some parents have also expressed concern about sending their children to school due to the alleged safety risk.

The villagers further alleged that a drinking water tap at the school has also remained non-functional for a long time. This has raised concerns not only about student safety but also about basic facilities at the institution. The villagers have urged the administration to take the matter seriously and remove the dilapidated structure before any untoward incident occurs.

Meanwhile, the headmaster said that he was aware of the matter and had informed the higher authorities several times. However, necessary action has not yet been taken by the concerned authorities. He said arrangements would be made to demolish the dilapidated mud house once permission or necessary instructions are received from the higher authorities.

Following the protest, local residents are now awaiting administrative action. They have urged the authorities to remove the unsafe structure at the earliest, keeping the safety of students in mind, and address the problems related to basic facilities at the school.
