New Delhi, 24 September (H.S.): Global markets are sending weak signals on Thursday, with selling pressure visible across several major markets. U.S. equities ended the previous session lower, while Dow Jones futures are also trading in negative territory today. European markets, too, remained under sustained pressure during the previous session. Asian markets are likewise witnessing broad-based selling pressure in today's trade.

U.S. markets remained under selling pressure throughout the previous session amid a rise in bond yields. After trading under pressure for most of the session, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.70 percent. Similarly, the S&P 500 Index ended the previous session 0.75 percent lower at 7,706.39 points. The Nasdaq fell 308.24 points, or 1.13 percent, to close at 26,936.04 points. Dow Jones futures were currently trading at 51,419.62 points, down 91.97 points, or 0.18 percent.

European markets also remained under sustained selling pressure during the previous session. The FTSE Index closed marginally lower by 0.03 percent at 10,705.26 points. Likewise, the CAC Index ended the session 0.39 percent lower at 8,123.41 points. The DAX Index declined 168.22 points, or 0.66 percent, to finish the previous session at 25,410.63 points.

Asian markets are also broadly witnessing selling pressure today. Of the nine major Asian market indices, seven were trading in negative territory, while one index was holding on to gains. The KOSPI Index remained inactive today as South Korea's stock exchange is closed for the Chuseok holiday, also known as the Harvest Festival.

The Nikkei was the only major Asian index trading with a strong gain, rising 646.05 points, or 0.99 percent, to 65,665 points.

On the other hand, GIFT Nifty was trading at 23,234 points, down 211.50 points, or 0.90 percent. The Jakarta Composite Index had also declined 0.90 percent to 6,317.53 points. The Shanghai Composite Index was under pressure as well, falling 0.93 percent to around 3,900 points.

Similarly, the Hang Seng Index declined 143.12 points, or 0.58 percent, to 24,691 points. The Taiwan Weighted Index fell 173.45 points, or 0.36 percent, to 47,983.84 points. Meanwhile, the SET Composite Index was trading 0.25 percent lower at 1,606.69 points, while the Straits Times Index declined 0.15 percent to 5,702.18 points.
