Kolkata, 24 September (H.S.) : Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani on Thursday announced the construction of a 2,000-bed hospital and medical college in the New Town area, backed by an investment of ₹4,000 crore. Laying the foundation stone of the multi-speciality hospital alongside Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, Adani outlined a comprehensive vision for the healthcare and infrastructural development of West Bengal.

In his address, Adani detailed that the Adani Arogya Mandir will operate as a world-class, not-for-profit medical institution. Out of the total capacity, 1,000 beds will be reserved for economically weaker sections eligible under state and central health insurance schemes. The core of the institution will feature a state-of-the-art medical college equipped with advanced research and patient care facilities. This expansive healthcare project is expected to generate over 10,000 employment opportunities within the state's medical ecosystem.

Emphasizing that building a stronger Bengal extends beyond a single institution, Adani stated that while healthcare transforms individual lives, robust infrastructure opens new avenues of opportunity for millions. Highlighting the state's strategic geographical importance, he described Bengal as a natural maritime bridge connecting India's vast industrial heartland and the Northeast with the Bay of Bengal, holding the immense potential to become Asia's largest integrated industrial platform.

Balancing industrial growth with cultural preservation, Adani lauded Bengal's architecture, art, literature, and festivals as invaluable assets. He announced the group's full commitment to supporting the restoration of the historic Writers' Building, the revitalization of Kumartuli Ghat, and initiatives aimed at showcasing the magnificent art of Kolkata's Durga Puja on a global stage. He asserted that a society's progress cannot be measured solely by the length of its roads or the volume of financial investments, but by its dedication to protecting the heritage and institutions that define its unique identity.
