New Delhi, 24 September (H.S.): The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, has begun comprehensive preparations for the nationwide ‘Special Campaign 6.0’, scheduled to be conducted from October 2 to 31. The campaign aims to reduce the burden of physical files in government offices, institutionalise workplace cleanliness and ensure the scientific disposal of e-waste.

According to the Ministry, the campaign is being coordinated by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG). Two phases have been planned for its smooth implementation. The preparatory phase, from September 16 to 30, will focus on identifying pending matters and obsolete or unusable materials, while the implementation phase, from October 2 to 31, will cover disposal and cleanliness activities.

The department has appointed a nodal officer at the internal level to oversee the campaign. It has also directed all its attached and subordinate offices, public sector undertakings and autonomous bodies to appoint nodal officers and identify scrap, e-waste and pending files in accordance with the standards prescribed by the DARPG.

The department is working to build on the achievements of the ‘Special Campaign 5.0’, conducted in October 2025. Key outcomes of the previous campaign included the disposal and digitisation of 11,972 physical files and documents, the freeing up of approximately 15,588 square feet of office space through the removal of obsolete materials, and the generation of revenue amounting to Rs. 1,447,619 through the disposal of scrap and unusable items. The campaign also included 64 indoor and outdoor cleanliness drives at various locations across the country.

Progress reports on the cleanliness drives conducted every month are being regularly updated on the Special Campaign portal.

According to the Ministry, under ‘Special Campaign 6.0’, the department will place particular emphasis on the safe collection, segregation and responsible disposal of obsolete computers, electronic equipment and e-waste. The department aims to transform inactive resources and accumulated files into greater efficiency, transparency and a better workplace culture.
