New Delhi, 24 September (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab’ (Drug-Free Punjab) campaign in Punjab will conclude in Jalandhar on September 30, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah scheduled to address a public rally on the occasion. Four anti-drug yatras being undertaken from different parts of the state as part of the campaign will also reach Jalandhar on the same day and conclude together.

BJP sources said the concluding programme would be held after all four yatras reach Jalandhar on September 30. Amit Shah will subsequently address a mega public rally. A venue for the rally has been finalised near the Jalandhar-Phagwara highway, and the party’s local unit has already begun preparations.

BJP national president Nitin Nabin had flagged off the four ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatras’ on September 18 from Madhopur in Pathankot, setting them off along four separate routes. The yatras will continue for a total of 13 days and are planned to cover all 117 Assembly constituencies in the state. Collectively, the four yatras are covering approximately 4,000 kilometres.

The first yatra was flagged off from the Ekta Sthal at Madhopur in Pathankot. The other three yatras commenced from Fatehgarh Sahib, Fazilka and Talwandi Sabo. The campaign is aimed at raising awareness against drug abuse and building broad-based public participation around the issue.

The Jalandhar programme is being viewed as the concluding phase of the campaign. With the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections approaching, the issue of drug abuse remains a prominent subject in the state’s political discourse. The BJP has positioned the campaign as a statewide social awareness initiative against drug abuse.

Party leaders have said that tackling the drug problem requires more than law-enforcement measures alone, stressing the need for greater awareness, treatment and rehabilitation, along with improved access to education and employment opportunities for young people.
