Nagaon (Assam), 24 September (HS): The Nagaon District Fisheries Department seized around 1,200 quintals of banned Thai Magur fish in Assam’s Kaliabor area, officials said today.

The consignment was intercepted by Jakhalabandha Police while it was allegedly being transported from Jagiroad to Golaghat. The seizure was made during a joint enforcement operation involving the Fisheries Department and police.

Officials said the transportation of the banned fish was detected during checking and the consignment was subsequently taken into custody for further legal action. The authorities are expected to ascertain the source of the fish and identify those involved in its transportation.

The seizure comes as the fisheries authorities continue enforcement against the transportation and sale of prohibited fish species in the state.------------
