Bhubaneswar, 24 September (H.S.): In view of the Deep Depression and the rainfall associated with the weather system, the Odisha Water Resources Department has intensified night patrolling and field-level vigilance at strategic locations across the State to monitor river conditions and safeguard critical water infrastructure.

Engineering officers and field personnel have been deployed to maintain continuous surveillance of reservoirs, barrages, riverbanks, sluices and other vulnerable structures, officials said.

As part of the ongoing monitoring, the Assistant Engineer of Sorada Section-I, along with field staff, conducted night patrolling and operated the barrage gates at Padma Barrage of Sorada Reservoir. The gates were regulated to manage the incoming water and divert it towards the reservoir as required.

Meanwhile, personnel of the Gunupur Irrigation Sub-Division carried out night patrolling at several locations along the Vansadhara River. The monitored locations included the area near Sananadi Bridge, the Central Water Commission (CWC) Gauge Station, Haldia Sluice and Ktwalguda village. Surveillance was also maintained around Haldia Sluice as part of continuous monitoring of the river and its associated hydraulic structures.

Night patrolling was also undertaken along the Left Flood Bank (LFB) of the Rushikulya River to keep a close watch on river conditions and ensure the safety of flood-protection infrastructure.

The department said field-level teams are maintaining 24×7 vigilance across vulnerable locations in view of the prevailing weather conditions. Continuous monitoring of water levels, river flow and critical structures is being undertaken to facilitate timely intervention, if required.
