West Midnapore, 23 September (H.S.): Tension prevailed in the Gosai Bazar area of Chandrakona Municipality after a woman was found with a man described by locals as her alleged lover inside a room late Tuesday night.

According to the allegations, the woman’s in-laws found the two sitting together and talking inside the room, following which an argument broke out and anger spread among family members. Local residents were subsequently called to the spot, and a large crowd gathered.

Allegedly, some people then took the woman and the man to the main road and tied them to a roadside pole. There were also allegations that lime was applied to the woman’s face.

On information, personnel from Chandrakona Town Police Station reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Police took both individuals to the police station.

Police appealed to local residents not to take the law into their own hands and said an investigation into the incident has been initiated. Further details are awaited.
