Tezpur (Assam), 23 September (H.S.): Three shops were gutted in a fire that broke out in the Kamar Suburi area of Tezpur, the headquarters of Sonitpur district, late Tuesday night.

According to police, the fire originated at a grocery shop in the area, allegedly due to a short circuit. The flames quickly spread to two adjoining shops, leaving all three establishments completely gutted.

After receiving information about the incident, a team of the Fire and Emergency Services reached the spot and managed to bring the blaze under control. Police said rainfall at the time of the incident also helped in containing the fire.

Preliminary estimates put the property damage at around ₹25 lakh. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fire and assess the losses.----------
