Thiruvananthapuram, 23 September (H.S.): The West Indies cricket team arrived in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday morning for the first ODI of their three-match series against India, scheduled to begin on September 27. The opening match will be played at the Greenfield International Stadium and will start at 2 pm IST. The series schedule and squad details have been cross-checked against ICC and Cricket West Indies sources.

The West Indies, led by Shai Hope, will face India in the series opener. The second ODI will be played in Guwahati on September 30, while the third match is scheduled for October 3 in New Chandigarh.

Cricket West Indies has announced squads for the three ODIs and five T20 Internationals on the India tour, which will run from September 27 to October 18 across eight cities.

John Campbell returns to the West Indies ODI squad after missing the final two ODIs against New Zealand due to a hamstring injury. Jewel Andrew has been brought into the squad in place of Ackeem Auguste, who is continuing his rehabilitation following surgery in August.

Shimron Hetmyer, who featured in the final two ODIs against New Zealand, will not be part of the ODI squad in India after being granted an extended recovery period following the Caribbean Premier League. He is expected to join the team for the T20I series.

The first two ODIs of the series will also bring the current qualification cycle for the ICC Men’s 50-over World Cup to a close. West Indies will not be able to secure automatic qualification irrespective of the results and will have to compete in the qualification tournament scheduled for early next year.

India will be led by Shubman Gill, with KL Rahul serving as vice-captain. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have also been included in the 15-member ODI squad. The series will provide India with an important opportunity to assess players and build towards the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj return to India’s ODI setup, while Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi and Punjab all-rounder Naman Dhir have received their maiden ODI call-ups.
