Aichi-Nagoya, 23 September (H.S.): Indian table tennis pairs Manush Shah-Diya Chitale and Harmeet Desai-Yashaswini Ghorpade advanced to the third round of the mixed doubles event at the Asian Games after winning their respective second-round matches on Wednesday.

Manush and Diya defeated Sri Lanka’s Chanul Kulappuwawadu and Bimandi Swarna 3-0. The Indian pair won 11-8, 12-10, 11-4.

Meanwhile, Harmeet Desai and Yashaswini Ghorpade defeated the Maldives’ Mohamed Ismail and Fathimath Ali to progress to the next round.

In canoe sprint, India’s Parvati Geeta and Fairembam Sonia Devi advanced to the semifinals of the women’s kayak doubles 500m event. The Indian pair finished at the bottom of Heat A with a time of 2:02.538, trailing the leading boat by 14.820 seconds. The top three boats qualified directly for the A final.

In rowing, Balraj Panwar finished third in the men’s single sculls heat and qualified for the final after ranking fourth in the combined standings of the two heats. Satnam Singh and Salman Khan finished second in the men’s double sculls heat and secured a place in the final after finishing fourth overall in the combined results.

In canoe sprint, the Indian quartet of Harshvardhan Shaktawat, Varinder Singh, L. Naocha Singh Oinam and Arun Singh finished third in the men’s kayak four 500m heat to qualify for the final. Megha Pradeep finished fifth in the women’s canoe single 200m heat and advanced to the semifinals.

In shooting, Manu Bhaker qualified for the final of the women’s 10m air pistol individual event. She finished third in qualification with a score of 579-20x. Suruchi Inder Singh and Esha Singh narrowly missed out on qualification for the final.

In swimming, Benedictan Beniston finished fourth in his men’s 100m butterfly heat and 13th overall, while Sajan Prakash did not start. Neither qualified for the final. Vedant Madhavan finished sixth in his men’s 200m freestyle heat, while Aneesh Sunil placed fourth in his heat. Their qualification for the final will depend on the overall results.

In rowing, Jaswinder Singh and Nitin Kumar finished fourth in the men’s pairs heat and qualified for Final B. The Indian women’s four team, comprising Gurbani Kaur, Alina Anto, Tendenthui Haobijam and Poonam, also competed in their heat.

Later, the Indian men’s badminton team will face China in the semifinals. India have already secured a medal and will now look to book a place in the final. Wushu player Roshibina Devi will also compete on Wednesday, aiming to secure a place in the final of her event.
