Guwahati, 23 September (HS): An awareness programme on Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) and cyber security was organised at the Headquarters of the 1st Battalion, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Sonapur, on Wednesday.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Ibouchouba Singh, Second-in-Command and Acting Commandant of the 1st Battalion SSB, Sonapur. Officials from the State Bank of India (SBI), Sonapur, conducted the session and briefed SSB personnel on identifying counterfeit currency notes, with particular focus on the ₹100, ₹200 and ₹500 denominations.

The SBI officials explained the security features of genuine currency notes and demonstrated practical methods to differentiate them from counterfeit notes. They also underlined the threat posed by the circulation of Fake Indian Currency Notes to the country's economic and internal security.

Considering the SSB's responsibilities in border guarding and internal security, personnel were urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to help prevent the circulation of counterfeit currency.

The session also covered cyber security and safe online financial practices. Personnel were advised against downloading unknown applications, opening suspicious links or sharing OTPs, passwords, banking credentials and other confidential information with unknown persons. Caution while using digital banking and online payment platforms was also emphasised.

The programme sought to strengthen awareness among SSB personnel about counterfeit currency and emerging cyber threats and encourage safe and responsible financial practices. The 1st Battalion SSB expressed gratitude to the SBI, Sonapur officials for conducting the session and appreciated the active participation of officers and personnel.
