Kharagpur 23 September (H.S.): West Bengal’s Pranati Nayak, hailing from Pingla in West Midnapore district and India’s lone gymnast at the 2026 Asian Games, has qualified for the women’s vault final after finishing seventh in the qualification round.

Pranati secured her place among the top eight finalists after competing against 19 gymnasts. She recorded a combined score of 12.916, with scores of 13.000 in her first vault and 12.433 in her second attempt. A 0.200 bonus was subsequently added to her overall qualification score.

The women’s vault final is scheduled to be held on September 24, where eight gymnasts will compete for the medals. Pranati will be aiming to build on her qualification performance and challenge for a podium finish.

Pranati, a three-time bronze medallist at the Asian Gymnastics Championships, is the only Indian gymnast competing at the 2026 Asian Games. Her qualification has generated considerable interest among sports fans in Bengal as she prepares for the medal round.
