Imphal, 23 September (HS): Security forces and police arrested an active militant and several persons while recovering narcotic substances and illicit liquor in separate operations across Manipur, officials said today.

On September 21, a team of Lilong Police Station arrested 50-year-old Ghulam Sayed Azad, son of late Md. Abdul Samad, from his locality at Nungei Ningthibi Bazar. Police recovered 208 Tramadol capsules, 583 Alprazolam capsules and 111 Diazepam tablets from his possession.

In another operation, the CDO Unit Kakching, in coordination with 43 Assam Rifles, arrested an active member of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) from the Lamjao Mayai Leikai area under Waikhong Police Station. The arrested person was identified as 23-year-old Maibam Gunamani alias Meirik Singh, son of Maibam Mani Singh of Lamjao Mayai Leikai in Kakching district.

Meanwhile, a joint team of Heingang Police Station and the QAT of 86 Battalion CRPF intercepted a passenger bus bearing registration number MN03 T-2080 at Mantripukhri. During a search, the team seized 20,000 suspected WY tablets, weighing approximately 2.1 kg, which were allegedly concealed inside the bus. Two persons, identified as 37-year-old Md. Anish Khan of Lilong Usoipokpi and 36-year-old Korimayum Nurul Haque of Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai, were arrested. Further investigation is underway.

In a separate operation, Imphal West District Police detained a Tata truck bearing registration number AS01 GC-9218 at the New Keithelmanbi Check Post. The vehicle was being driven by 31-year-old Ksh. Shitaljit Singh of Yairipok Angtha Maning Leikai. Police recovered 50 cartons of liquor containing 1,224 beer cans and IMFL bottles. The seized liquor, vehicle and driver were handed over to the Excise Station, Keithelmanbi, for further legal action.------------
