New Delhi, 23 September (H.S.): Sources in the Election Commission of India said that all decisions taken by the poll panel, including the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, were approved unanimously by the Chief Election Commissioner and both Election Commissioners. The clarification comes amid reports of alleged differences within the Commission over certain decisions.

According to Commission sources, the SIR and other decisions were approved by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar as well as Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi. The Election Commission currently has a three-member structure, comprising Gyanesh Kumar as Chief Election Commissioner and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi as Election Commissioners.

The clarification follows a report in an English-language newspaper which claimed that the two Election Commissioners had raised objections on at least 14 occasions over certain decisions taken in the name of the Commission during the past 10 months. According to the report, the objections related to matters including changes to Form 6, access to digital records of electoral rolls, appeals concerning voters’ names in West Bengal, and the inclusion of eligible voters’ names in Goa.

Following the report, sources associated with the Commission said that all decisions had been taken unanimously and that the SIR process, too, had proceeded with the approval of all three Election Commissioners.

The Commission has previously highlighted the joint involvement of all three commissioners in preparations for the SIR. In October 2025, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar chaired a conference of Chief Electoral Officers convened to discuss preparations for the SIR, which was also attended by both Election Commissioners.
