Amravati, 23 Sept (HS): A bridge on the main line from Chandur Railway

to Savanga Vithoba via Manjarkhed in Amravati District suddenly collapsed. The

bridge collapsed even when there was neither heavy rainfall nor any earthquake

in the area. The poor condition of the bridge may have caused this situation. The

exact cause of the bridge collapse, however, will be known only after an

investigation by the administration. The bridge collapse has resulted in a

major traffic disruption.

Police Patil Hirasingh Rathod and the villagers

barricaded the spot as a preventive measure. Motorists, especially

two-wheelers, four-wheelers and heavy vehicles, have been asked to take

precautions while passing through this stretch.

Laxman Rathore, a trustee of the Vithoba Sansthan, and

pther office bearers claimed that repeated representations were made to the

concerned administration and public representatives regarding the repair of the

road and the bridge. However, the demand fell on deaf years.

An appeal has been made on behalf of Shri Vithoba

Sansthan to take an alternate route via Malkhed, Hatla or Chirodi Phata to

reach Savanga Vithoba.
