New Delhi, 23 September (H.S.):
In view of the proposed nationwide strike by public sector bank employees from September 28 to 30, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has taken a significant step to minimise inconvenience to customers. The central bank has approved the opening of bank branches on Sunday, September 27, 2026, to ensure that essential banking services remain accessible to the public.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Ministry of Finance said the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has called a three-day nationwide bank strike from September 28 to 30, 2026. The proposed strike follows the weekend holidays on September 26 and 27. Keeping the banking requirements of citizens in mind, the government has therefore taken necessary measures in advance.
The ministry said that, to ensure that the essential banking needs of the general public are not disrupted for an extended period, all public sector banks and regional rural banks will function normally on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
The Ministry of Finance further said the RBI has approved keeping all bank branches, offices, ATM-linked branches and currency chests fully operational on September 27, 2026.
The ministry said the welfare and convenience of bank customers remain the government’s foremost priority. The government and bank management have appealed to the unions to defer the proposed strike and have also taken measures to ensure that essential banking services continue without interruption.
