Guwahati, 23 September (H.S.): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday said police have detained 28 people described by him as “illegal foreigners” during ongoing operations across the state.

In a social media post, Sarma said Mankachar Police, acting on information from a confidential source, detained six such persons from a residence in the area. Legal action has been initiated against them, while an investigation is also underway against the person who allegedly provided them shelter.

The Chief Minister said that in statewide operations conducted on Tuesday, Assam Police detained another 22 people from different locations and initiated action against them.

Sarma said the police operations against what he described as a threat to the state and the country would continue in the coming days.-------------
