New Delhi, 23 September (H.S.): President Droupadi Murmu, Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday congratulated Indian athletes for their impressive performances at the 2026 Asian Games.

Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu created history by winning a silver medal in the women’s 49kg category, ending a 28-year wait for India to claim a weightlifting medal at the Asian Games. Indian shooters also added to the country’s medal tally, while soft tennis player Jay Meena secured a historic bronze.

President Murmu congratulated Parinaaz Dhaliwal, Raiza Dhillon and Maheshwari Chauhan for winning bronze in the women’s skeet team event. She also extended her congratulations to Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Bhavtegh Singh Gill and Mairaj Ahmad Khan for securing bronze in the men’s skeet team event.

President Murmu said the athletes’ skill, determination and team spirit had made the nation proud.

Vice-President Radhakrishnan congratulated Mirabai Chanu on her silver-medal performance in the women’s 49kg weightlifting event, praising her determination and consistency.

He also congratulated Parinaaz Dhaliwal, Maheshwari Chauhan and Raiza Dhillon for their bronze medal in the women’s skeet team event, as well as Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Bhavtegh Singh Gill and Mairaj Ahmad Khan for their bronze in the men’s skeet team event.

Radhakrishnan said the athletes’ precision, teamwork and outstanding performances had brought pride to the country and wished all the medal winners continued success in the years ahead.

Prime Minister Modi congratulated Chanu on her silver medal, saying her determination and consistency would continue to inspire the nation and that India was proud of her.

He also praised Parinaaz Dhaliwal, Maheshwari Chauhan and Raiza Dhillon for their bronze medal in the women’s skeet team event, noting that their precision and teamwork had created a proud moment for Indian sport.

PM Modi described Jay Meena’s bronze medal in the men’s individual soft tennis event as a historic achievement, as it marked India’s first-ever Asian Games medal in the sport. He said the feat had opened a new and memorable chapter for soft tennis in the country.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla highlighted Mirabai Chanu’s historic return to the Asian Games podium, noting that her medal came after a 28-year gap since India’s previous weightlifting medal at the continental Games.

Om Birla also congratulated Parinaaz Dhaliwal, Raiza Dhillon and Maheshwari Chauhan on winning India’s first bronze medal in the women’s skeet team event at the Asian Games. He extended his greetings to Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Bhavtegh Singh Gill and Mairaj Ahmad Khan for their bronze medal in the men’s skeet team event.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated the members of India’s women’s skeet team for their bronze-medal performance, saying their achievement had made the country proud and urging them to carry the same winning spirit into their future competitions.
