
New Delhi, 22 September (H.S.): Domestic equity markets maintained a positive trend in early trade on Tuesday, with both benchmark indices opening higher. The market witnessed mild volatility for some time after the opening, with the Sensex briefly slipping into negative territory amid selling pressure. However, renewed buying interest pushed both the Sensex and Nifty higher. After the first hour of trading, the Sensex was up 0.19 per cent and the Nifty 0.22 per cent amid continued buying and selling activity.
The BSE Sensex opened 42.51 points, or 0.06 per cent, higher at 74,901.50. Soon after the opening bell, a tug-of-war between buyers and sellers triggered volatility in the index. Under selling pressure, the Sensex briefly slipped into negative territory and touched 74,850.27. It soon recovered as buyers returned to the market and pushed the index back into the green. Supported by sustained buying, the upward momentum strengthened. At 10:15 am, after the completion of the first hour of trading, the Sensex was trading 143.66 points, or 0.19 per cent, higher at 75,002.65.
Similarly, the NSE Nifty began the session at 23,454.05, gaining 39.75 points, or 0.17 per cent. The index fluctuated within a narrow range shortly after the market opened. Buying activity picked up around 9:30 am, lending further momentum to the benchmark. At 10:15 am, following an hour of trading amid continued buying and selling, the Nifty was up 50.85 points, or 0.22 per cent, at 23,465.15.
A total of 2,877 stocks were actively traded in the market at that point. Of these, 1,994 stocks were trading in positive territory, while 883 were in the red. Among the 30 Sensex constituents, 18 stocks were trading higher on buying support, while 12 were under selling pressure and trading lower. On the Nifty, 29 of the 50 constituent stocks were in positive territory, while 21 were trading in the red.
After the first hour of trading, shares of major companies including Coal India, Titan Company, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, HDFC Bank and Jio Financial Services were trading with gains ranging from 2.44 per cent to 1.10 per cent. On the other hand, shares of HCL Technologies, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Grasim Industries and ONGC were trading lower, with losses ranging from 1.69 per cent to 0.76 per cent.
In the previous trading session on Monday, the Sensex had closed 564.03 points, or 0.76 per cent, higher at 74,858.99. The Nifty, meanwhile, ended Monday’s session with a gain of 67.90 points, or 0.29 per cent, at 23,414.30.
