Aichi-Nagoya, 22 September (H.S.): Indian karateka Chetan Bhatt narrowly missed out on a bronze medal in the men’s 84kg Kumite category at the 2026 Asian Games. In Tuesday’s bronze-medal bout, Chetan faced Chinese Taipei’s Meng-Yu Chu. The contest ended in a 1-1 draw, but Chu secured the victory on the basis of Senshu, claiming the bronze medal.

Earlier, Chetan had suffered an 0-8 defeat against Jordan’s Mohammad Al-Jafari in the semifinal of the men’s 84kg Kumite category. The Indian athlete was unable to score in the semifinal, forcing him to compete for the bronze medal.

Aryan Nehra Finishes Fourth in Final B of Swimming

In swimming, Aryan Nehra finished fourth in Final B of the men’s 1,500m freestyle event. Final B featured swimmers who had recorded relatively slower times, and the result had no bearing on the medal standings.

Jai Meena Defeats Pakistan’s Hussain Arain in Soft Tennis

In soft tennis, India’s Jai Meena defeated Pakistan’s Hussain Arain 4-0 in a Group D men’s singles match. Jai won the contest 4-2, 4-0, 4-2, 4-0.

In the women’s singles Group D, Aadya Tiwari suffered a 1-4 defeat against Thailand’s Elisha Ziegler. Aadya made a strong start, winning the opening game 4-1, but subsequently lost four consecutive games by scores of 0-4, 0-4, 2-4 and 4-6.

Only the top-ranked players in the group will advance to the quarter-finals. Aadya will therefore need to defeat Pakistan’s Kainat Shalwani in her next match and hope that Shalwani also defeats Ziegler for her chances of reaching the last eight to remain alive.

India Lose to Malaysia in Sepak Takraw

In men’s team regu Group B of sepak takraw, India suffered a 0-2 defeat against Malaysia. India lost both games 9-15 and 12-15. The Indian team had also suffered a 1-2 defeat against Japan in their Group B encounter on Monday.

India have one group-stage match remaining, with the team scheduled to face the Philippines on Wednesday.
